BILGE PUMP and LORDS tour in March 2008. Have a look at the promotions page. We should have confirmed release dates for Bilge Pump, Lords and SOEZA albums very soon.

10/12/07

New in the Gringo shoppe - lovely ethically screened SOEZA t-shirts delivered in a hand stamped box! We only have a few of these, so be sprightly.

You can find the SAILORS 7" in all good record shops. If you are too young to be interested in record players then you can always download the 7" from emusic along with most of the Gringo back catalogue. Don't stop buying records though, eh? Read nice reviews of Sailors by Mike Diver of DiS and Mark Barton of Losing Today. And then buy the record!!!

The second BILGE PUMP album is all finished, now it is down to Gringo and The Speeding Train to finish of the artwork and get this beauty in a form ready to wow your ears. Expect CD and vinyl early in 2008.

A second LORDS album is perilously close, mastering and fabulous Jay Howell artwork is left to be done. We hope for this one just after Bilge Pump.

And to complete a trio of (at last) bands releasing second albums on Gringo, SOEZA have been recording tracks all summer with Mark Simms of The Electric Press. As I type, the tracks are speeding across the UK in a padded envelope addressed to Gringo Towers.

Not much news on a new ESKA album, but perhaps I'll have some more to report if/when Chris Mack comes back to the UK to tour the new James Orr Complex album.

Gringo is hoping to be working with the wondrous ZUNZUNEGUI in some shape or form. Damn You! put them on in august and they wowed everyone with their afro-kraut-beatings. The Gringo old-boy connection is that they number Kush and Nick from Designer Babies.

Also coming up in 2008: Gringo t-shirts, a new Gringo website featuring a shiny online distro, The Horse Loom, more more more.

29/07/07

SAILORS 7" is now available to buy in the Gringo Records shop! Limited to 317 copies.

Also just got in a repress of the cheapo "Oh Yeah!" Gringo sampler CD.

I found some LORDS t-shirts of various colours and sizes under my bed. Get one while they last. Gringo Records shirts coming soon designed by Chris Baldwin!

SOUVARIS album is available now!!!

2007 is Gringo's 10th anniversary year. Although the exact date of birth is of some debate. Some argue that as the future leaders of Gringo met on 21st October 1996 at a Urusei Yatsura / Eska gig, this was Gringo's conceptual birth. However, I prefer to take the birth date as 9 June 1997 when we picked our first release from the pressing plant and then drove all the way to Norwich to see Mogwai and Navigator. Heady days.

So, 9 June 2007 it is. A big party is being organised in Nottingham, with Gringo stars past and present, poppers and streamers, that sort of thing.

SAILORS are all finished recording actual songs and we're currently discussing just how snazzy their Gringo 7" should look. If they play anywhere near you, make sure you go see, as Nick is risking his very existence for rock n roll.

SOUVARIS! These boys are organised. They've gone and booked themselves a big old tour of France in April, which should be around the time their Gringo album "A Hat" is released. The album is now available for pre-order from the Gringo website! We also have some nice t-shirts!

LORDS relaxed and got fat(ter) over Xmas following an extraordinary 2006. They released an album and a split 10", both to heartening acclaim. They played festivals, they toured, they played a Halloween show to a naked man wrapped in clingfilm. Lords have now regrouped hit the demo studio in January to work on a 2nd album provisionally titled "EVERYONE IS PEOPLE". They played some shows with YOUNG JAMES LONG and TRANS AM in February/March. They will became the first ever Gringo band to go trans-Atlantic at the annual SXSW festival in Texas in March.

BILGE PUMP have recorded a new album, rather sensibly titled "Rupert The Sky". I'm going to stick my neck out and predict that this will be the greatest album ever made by chaps who live in Leeds. Better than a Gang of Four and Sisters of Mercy album, put together! Hope for a release before the summer!

The second ESKA album edges ever closer! Overdubs and vocals need to be done. Chris may be making a visit from Brazil later this year when the second James Orr Complex album is released. Kenny became yet another Gringo father recently, so hi-fives all round. Quite why a Gringo baby is yet to be christened Matthew or Gringo, I do not know…

Kick off the celebrations with a Gringo night in London on 17th March courtesy of A Badge of Friendship. BILGE PUMP, SOUVARIS and DESIGNER BABIES rocking it at Imperial College Union.

Gringo now has an official Last Fm page!

In proper news…

SOUVARIS! These boys are organised. They've gone and booked themselves a big old tour of France in April, which should be around the time their Gringo album "A Hat" is released. And they are flaunting themselves in all sorts of crazy places across the UK. Like Northampton, Ipswich and, no really, Mansfield.

Fact Fans - "A Hat" was mastered by the legendary John Golden (Sonic Youth/ Bedhead/Melvins/Oxes/Faith No-fuckin'-More(!) and others too numerous to list). It sounds rather beautiful.

DESIGNER BABIES only have to put the finishing touches to their debut album. At the moment we're looking at a vinyl only release. And they are playing a Gringo night in London on March 17th!

THE UNIT AMA have been rather quiet recently. I hope they are secretly recording new music. I've heard whisperings of a European jaunt in April. Just whisperings, mind.

CLAMBAKE are currently not performing in their two-bro format. However, Andy Bake has a new backing band called THE RESURRECTION MEN and they'll be strutting the boards with Young James Long in Nottingham soon.

REYNOLDS played a reformation gig and got paid almost as much as Slint. Who knows when they will play again as Phil is going to become the 7th Gringo dad soon.

Two of Gringo's leading vocal stars, Ben from SOEZA and Kush the former DESIGNER BABY are taking part in a new multi-screen video installation in which they "mimic the birdsong of the spring dawn chorus". Ben is a swallow, not sure about Kush's bird of choice. Here is the skinny, for those who like some culture...

Marcus Coates: Dawn Chorus
Marcus Coates once played animist shaman to the residents of a Liverpool high rise; now, in his new multi-screen video installation, 19 singers mimic the birdsong of the spring dawn chorus. They warble, they tweet, they cry. We titter. Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art, Gateshead (0191-478 1810), February 14 to March 18.

And finally, the bad news, much delayed. POLARIS are no more.
