30/11/05 Jeepers,
lots and lots and lots of news... we'll be at ATP this weekend hopefully we'll
man a stall on Sunday and we'll also be doing some DJ action in the pub! THE
UNIT AMA cds arrived today so I'll have fun putting these together over the
next few weeks. Copies will be for sale at ATP and I'll make them available to
buy online once I get back. The vinyl version will follow early in the new year. POLARIS
The cd version of their album has been sent off for manufacture and will hopefulyl
come back before Christmas. Again, the vinyl will follow inearly 2006. So hang
on! LORDS (news
direct from Chris) "Jay Howell has done the artwork for the album. It'll
be worth the wait. Jay has also provided us with a tremendous sleeve image for
the split 10" with Part Chimp, TODD and Hey Colossus which is due in January.
Jay is at www.punksgitcut.com. Touring-ish
activity in Jan/Feb. We have also recorded a bizarro cover of 'Everybody's Got
Something To Hide Except For Me And My Monkey' for a forthcoming Radio One Special
where tons of bands cover a track each from The Beatles' White Album. Trust us,
it sounds odd. Erm... We're probably going to have to change our name because
of the Lords on Jade Tree. Please email any suggestions to us at honeyisfunnyATfastmailDOTfm.
The more minimal the change the better. The Lords has gone. Current favourites
are Looords, Lloorrddss etc. We are good at prizes so we will give an album and
a prize to the best suggestion." That BBC session will actually be broadcast
on the One
World show , Monday 5 December 2005: 0100-0300. CLAMBAKE
will be doing some recording early in the New Year and will have a track
on the lovingly compiled Static Party compilation which should be out in March.
This is a record that has been compiled by Lee Sonic Dirt and Gaz X-Ray, more
details to follow when they are available. SOEZA
are doing a live session for dexterBentley
which will be broadcast on Resonance FM
on the afternoon of Saturday 7th January. They are also playing quite a few gigs
so be sure to go and check them out. Ben has moved to Cardiff and has started
putting gigs there. Mr Owen has joined the MySpace revolution, so be sure to add
him as your friend. BILGE
PUMP have a MySpace page put together by one of Leeds' most eligible young
men around town, Mr Daniel Robert Chapman. Here
it is! SAN
LORENZO Owens' new band, Grand Old Dukes, play The Spitz in London on a Fire
Records night on Feb 17th 2006! DESIGNER
BABIES have updated
their site with photos and video
clips from the Melt Banana show. 26/10/05 For
a Lords interview, go here 17/10/05 POLARIS

THE UNIT AMA are
about to go on a week long tour with the excellent Souvaris. Gringo is currently
putting together a repackaged version of their self-released album which will
be on CD and some beautifully package vinyl. LORDS
are up to all sorts of activity as always. The album "This Ain't A Hate Thing,
It's A Love Thing" is complete and en route to mastering. It has 10 songs
and many surprises. It also has horns, reverb, some children and numerous pant-soiling
moments of molten guitar spume. Lords have also recorded a track for a split 10"
with brothers in volume Part Chimp, Todd and Hey Colossus which will unite the
labels Southern, Rock Action, Jonson Family and Gringo in a co-release love in.
A small tour in January will follow. BILGE
PUMP continue to amaze, writing new songs which top the last in terms of dexterity,
sweat and ROCK. Im giddily excited at the prospect of a new album some time
next year because it will be immense! One of Neils other bands, Quack Quack,
have just released an album on Run of The Mill Records. Well have some copies
of this in the distro soon. ESKA
recently played a gig in Glasgow, but unfortunately it will be their last for
some time because Chris Mack is moving to Brazil to live for a while. I don't
see enough of Chris as it is and now he'll be even further away! Apparently Eska
are going to try and record a new album before Chris leaves. SOEZA
recently released their excellent album Why Do You Do? on Gringo.
If you dont already have this then snap it up! They are such an underrated
band. KILL
YOURSELF have recorded
a new album which should see the light of day on Gringo early next year once he
boring stuff like artwork is sorted out. CLAMBAKE
have completely their metamorphis into Nottinghams answer to Motorhead.
DESIGNER
BABIES have had
a wee line up changed, slimming down to three piece with a sick new drum cat. 22/09/05 Eska
played a gig in Glasgow on Wednesday night, but unfortunately it will be their
last for some time because Chris Mack is moving to Brazil to live for a while.
I don't see enough of Chris as it is and now he'll be even further away! Apparently
Eska are going to try and record a new album before Chris leaves. I'll keep you
posted. Eska also have a track on a Scottish Charity Album called "one-in-four".
The track is Hypnotism Act, the same version that was on the Gringo Singles Club
7". The CD also has tracks from Belle and Sebastian, Sons and Daughters,
TFC, Delgados, James Orr Complex and more. Although there are thousands of copies
it is not available in the shops, but should be given to all Scottish Students
starting this year.... 13/09/05 Lords
- The album "This Ain't A Hate Thing, It's A Love Thing" is complete
and is en route to mastering. It has 10 songs and many surprises. It also has
horns, reverb, some children and numerous pant-soiling moments of molten guitar
spume. Lords are recording again in a weeks time for a split 10" with brothers
in volume Part Chimp, TODD and Hey Colossus which will unite the labels Southern,
Rock Action, Jonson Family and Gringo in a co-release love in. A small tour in
January will follow. Lords have other dates on the gig page before then, especially
an early evening performance with Part Chimp in Nottm to spite the latecomers,
a return visit to Audioscope (conquered last year with Damo Suzuki) on Oct 30
and a few shows in December with fellow Thin Lizzy fanclub members The Fucking
Champs. In other news, Lord Philip has moved to the Shire of York, Lord Elvin
spent a week naked in Wales and Lord Christophe saw Iggy Pop's winky. Lords Elvin
and Christophe have united as Halfmast Hambone (aka Thee Viscounts, aka My Balls/Your
Chin) for some Sonny Sharrock/Last Exit inspired noise at a venue near you soon.

other news, BBC6music have been going Gringo crazy recently. Phil Jupitus has
been playing Clambake's feelgood hit of the summer 'Dogging Spot #1', while Marc
Riley has ben featuring tracks from the Gringo Singles club. 22/05/05 Clambake
news from the mouth of Andy Bake "We
have 3 tracks from our album Gator in the Pool featured on the soundtrack of the
independently produced film 20,000 Little Reasons-Director Andy Wilton has kindly
invited us up to the premiere which is happening in Newcastle. Though I haven't
seen the film yet I am told that it is a gritty low budget gangster film. The
film was shot over a two week period in and around Newcastle and has a soundtrack
which features many artists from many diverse areas of music. Andy, the director,
is particularly happy with the soundtrack and we are glad to have been asked to
contribute and have been happy to do so. The film also features a voice over by
Norman Lovett of Red Dwarf fame. The
release of "This is Punk Rock Blues Volume I" is scheduled for 4th July,
2005. The expanded line up on this fantastic compilation now features The Gin
Palace, The Immortal Lee County Killers, The Soledad Brothers and Ghostwriter
as well as the original artists featured on the album, T-Model Ford, Gaffer Hexam,
Catweasel and of course us! The
folks at Not The Same Old Blues Crap have done a brilliant job in putting this
album together and there will be some live dates featuring some of the bands involved
in the album in the near future. We will put details of these gigs on the site
when we are in possession of the full facts."
15/05/05 If
any of you are short of something to do... Cryptozoomorphic Hierograms:
An exhibtion of drawings and paintings by Daniel Higgs of Lungfish at 96 Gillespie
Gallery in London (96 Gillespie Road, London, N5. nearest tube: Arsenal). Show
runs May 13th to June 9th 2005. For more information visit www.96gillespie.com. 27/04/05 Gringo
now has a My Space page with a jukebox and everything - http://www.myspace.com/gringorecords 18/04/05 The
first ever Bilge
Pump interview is now online! 01/04/2005 I've
been neglecting my duties again, but in my defence I am on holiday right now in
sunny Sacramento, California. Off to Portland at the weekend. I'm looking forward
to seeing some big trees. The
Soeza album is out right now! Buy it buy it but it. Lords,
The Unit Ama and Polaris are all polishing off albums.
Kill Yourself too! Bilge Pump are going to try
and get an album done for later this year (as exclusively revelealed in their
first ever interview in Sandman magazine!) Designer
Babies have
had a wee line up change, Kush and Nick have left. Mark and Kate have recruited
new drummer, who I'm told is a bit of a demon. 26/01/2005
- GRINGO 2005 BAND BY BAND BILGE
PUMP are going to
be on a split 12" with The Edmund Fitzgerald, courtesy of Noisestar. I hear
it could be ready within a month. Bilge continue to write songs for the second
album which we would like to release by the end of the year. Joe Mask told me
a great story about a guy shitting himself at a party last weekend. CLAMBAKE
have two new tracks on a compilation called "This is Punk Rock Blues"
which also features unreleased songs by T Model Ford, Gaffer Hexam, Jawbone, The
Killer B's, Mudlow and Tony Moon. The album provides a vital document of all the
bands/artists who a beating the "blues" out of shape and unleashing
this on an unsuspecting world. We suggest that you check www.notthesameoldbluescrap.co.uk
for details and try and get one of these babies. DESIGNER
BABIES are massive
in Mauritius. Kushal went home for the holidays and was interviewed in a major
national newspaper while holding a broom, a razor and a toothbrush very menacingly.
French speakers go here! EMPIRE-BUILDER
fans can celebrate their first recorded output in five years (I think) as
the Gringo Singles Club split 7" with Thunder! Thunder! Thunder! has been
pressed and we are screening the sleeves next week. ESKA
are hard at work recording new songs which I can't wait to hear! Could they
become the first band to release two albums on Gringo? KILL
YOURSELF had a lovely day in the studio in Liverpool recording the rest of
the songs to form an album to be released some time in the next 6 months or so.
I haven't asked them on what label, maybe I should eh?! LORDS
will soon be in a recording studio pouring hot fudge sauce over an album for
Gringo. A Lord recently moved in 8 doors down from me. POLARIS
have been mixing their album and Ben Owen from Soeza has done a nice painting
for the artwork. I got to see Polaris play with Hoover and they were fantastic.
SAN LORENZO
have been playing some shows together, I'm looking forward to seeing them again. SEACHANGE
nicked my Telecaster and hotfooted to the Devon / Cornwall border to record
two (TWO!) new albums for Matador. SOEZA's
album "Why Do You Do?" can be pre-ordered now and we will send them
out next week!! Go visit the shop. I'll put more up about
this soon. THE
UNIT AMA are pottering
about finishing off the artwork for the Gringo re-release of their book-bound
album. There might be a vinyl version in the offing if you are lucky! Expect it
out around May. WOLVES!
(OF GREECE) might have called it a day. Simon has decided to leave and it
looks unlikely that the rest of the band will play together under the Wolves moniker.
I'm not sure what is happening regarding the mooted Gringo 7". More news
as and when. Sorry
if I have forgotten anyone. Gringo slipmats are on the way. All the band pages
on the Gringo website have been updated. Ted Leo is coming over soon. Ipswich
are top of the league. Life is sweet.
